Back Home

The Dubai trip was pretty interesting; quite an experience. I need to write about it in detail and maybe share a few pics.

A few highlights of the trip were:
1. Visit to the Harley Davidson showroom
2. Meeting with MF Hussain
3. Meeting with Suvi Sis; you rock my DGSS! :)

I don't need to mention the success on the professional side, do I?

Reached Dubai

Blogging from one of our group company's villas here in Dubai. Had a decent flight; there was no one sitting next to me so I could just spread myself out and sleep after dinner.

The flight was a lil late; landed at 2230 local time. Met Mani at the airport and he drove me to the villa - just off Sheikh Zayed road, somewhere in Deira. More details on that later. Living with this jolly bunch of guys; this trip could be fun :)

Back to work tomorrow!

Wi Blog

Sitting at the international airport in Mumbai. The flight will take off in a a coupla hours.

What's more exciting than the trip is the fact that I am using TATA Indicom's Wi-Fi internet facility in the airport, hehehehe.

How Bond Becomes Bond

You wait through the whole movie for him to say just that line - The name is Bond, James Bond. The wait is long but then you won't mind waiting through the movie anyway.

This is a different Bond you get to see here. Daniel Craig has had a lot of detractors claiming that he's not suited to play Bond. This movie plays on that sentiment and ends up delivering Bond. Just not the way you have been used to, till now.

This is the movie of how Bond becomes Bond, James Bond. It's almost like a 'prequel' where you get to see exactly how a secret agent matures to become the best known spy of the reel world. And all through this 'maturing process', you get to see a Bond who is emotional, romantic, gritty, passionate... raw. The movie begins with how Bond gets his '00' status and then criss-crosses the world through Madagascar, Bahamas, the fictitious Royale Eaux and finally Venice. The action sequences are quite out of the world - raw action. The chase in the beginning of the movie through a town in Madagascar HAS to be seen to be believed. Daniel Craig has already won a lot of praise for doing his own action scenes - something worth watching.

Eva Green doesn't play the stereotypical Bond girl, indeed she's hardly a 'Bond girl at all! The exchanges between Bond and Vesper are quite something. Even then, you get to see a very different Bond. A Bond that Craig bonds with rather well.

So yes, go ahead and watch it. I am definitely going to, once more.

.............

Going to Dubai tomorrow evening. Will be back on Thursday morning. So kindly excuse, if I am unable to post etc.

God bless us.

Bonding

As a team bonding exercise, we are all gonna watch the Bond who bonds us all. Oh yes, Casino Royale it is! Tonight at 22:45!

Meanwhile, just to build up the atmosphere, I have ensured that everyone in my team will be playing various Bond movie themes on their systems till we leave for the movie. And if that sounds autopratic.. Do I Look Like I Give A Damn?

On Martyrs

Chanced upon this article in rediff.com. Worth a read.

I did write an article on Afzal Guru sometime ago, but never got around to posting it. After reading the rediff article, I doubt I will.

Lazing the Sunday away. How's yours? ;)

The Departed

Watched The Departed last night at PVR Cinemas in Mulund. Loved it. Martin Scorsese has never failed to please, even though his predilection for blood and gore (that is only rivaled by Quentin Tarantino) may be slightly unnerving.

The movie boasts of a stellar cast and expectedly powerful performances from Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio, who are ably supported by Alec Baldwin, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen and Vera Farmiga.

The movie is about deception, its consequences and the emotional toil it takes on the characters. While it does veer occasionally towards Bollywood-like moments, the movie manages to portray the principal characters in three dimensions as against simple black and white.

It's hard to choose the better actor between Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon and Leo DiCaprio, as each one goes hammer and tongs at his respective role as Mafia Don, mafia mole and undercover cop. There is an overriding tension throughout the movie and there are very few scenes that fail to please.

I particularly enjoyed Mark Wahlberg's (almost sinister) portrayal of the cop who specializes in running undercover agents. His foul-mouthed character manages to endear, despite his aggression.

Alec Baldwin and Martin Sheen are almost sidelined, but they have given 100% to their respective roles.

Overall, thumbs up. Watch it.

Life has been hectic (as usual). Was in Pune on Sat/Sun, enjoyed the outing at a place called Kamshet. Hung around at Nirvana Adventures, I plan to go back soon.

Had a whistle-stop tour of Bangalore on Wednesday. It's always nice to know a city really well, apart from the one you have been brought up in.

That apart, have been feeling slightly creative again. Managed to pen some poems, will probably post them some time.

My apologies for the long delay in posting. M, you are right. No excuses :) I am not in China!

Alright, that's it for now. Hope I manage to post soon.

But then there must be something worthwhile to share too, right? :D
