Worth A Dekko
It was just last week that K and I discussed our mutual dissatisfaction over Farhan Akhtar's remake of DON. It mostly stemmed from the fact that we weren't overjoyed about the choice of Shahrukh Khan as the protagonist.
Imagine my surprise when K sms'd me on Friday evening saying that she had watched Don and it had exceeded her expectations! Two things were music to my ears - the simultaneous international release of Don and the probable return (or reaffirmation) of SRK to Don status in Bollywood. At that very moment, I was informed that some tickets were available for the night show of Don at a cinema near my house. I gave the GA.
So that's how I ended up watching SRK at 2230 in the night, doing his version of Don. I must say I was impressed. My biggest grouse against SRK is that he plays Shahrukh in his movies, rather than the character in the movie. Not so, in this case. SRK plays Don to near perfection and with an aplomb that the character merits. Farhan manages to take the spotlight away from the actor and concentrates on his character, using technical finesse, mindblowing stunts and a wardrobe to kill for. The rest of the characters do a good job as well.
I don't want to spoil any more surprises. All that I will say here is - The movie is about Don. Now that may sound really stupid or really cryptic. Either ways, watch the movie. You will understand.
