Bomb-ay in Hyderabad, a Mumbaikar's experience

It was an unusual Saturday; we were working - preparing for a review by the big C himself. Onam's on Monday and I needed to do some shopping for that as well. Dragged a friend along for a jaunt and I found myself suddenly getting calls.

That's when I realized something was wrong. Dad broke the news to me. Two blasts in Hyderabad. He wasn't very sure exactly where but he was worried. I was fine, I assured him.

I then started calling up friends & colleagues to find out if everyone was okay - thankfully, I am yet to hear to the contrary.

I got home quite late; was appalled to see the 'gruesome' coverage by news channels. I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. In a way, I feel it's about giving the 'terrorists' their 'satisfaction' at viewing their carnage. One the other hand, if the 'people' were to be moved enough by the carnage to actually do something about it all, it would work. An endless debate, I guess.

All said and done, I really don't know what to say. I saw this in Mumbai last year and before that, in so many ways. I don't know when the insane killing will stop. I don't know what it will take to truly appreciate the value of life & find ways and means of saving it instead of taking it.

It's indeed deplorable that no arrests have been made in connection with the blast in Hyderabad in May - a fact that has probably emboldened and brazened the perpetrators of this set of blasts.

I can only hope that Hyderabadis & indeed, Indians, do not just accept the sheer inaction from our leaders. Here, maybe, it would indeed be good to learn from the Americans.

Never forget your own.
