The Departed

Watched The Departed last night at PVR Cinemas in Mulund. Loved it. Martin Scorsese has never failed to please, even though his predilection for blood and gore (that is only rivaled by Quentin Tarantino) may be slightly unnerving.

The movie boasts of a stellar cast and expectedly powerful performances from Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio, who are ably supported by Alec Baldwin, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen and Vera Farmiga.

The movie is about deception, its consequences and the emotional toil it takes on the characters. While it does veer occasionally towards Bollywood-like moments, the movie manages to portray the principal characters in three dimensions as against simple black and white.

It's hard to choose the better actor between Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon and Leo DiCaprio, as each one goes hammer and tongs at his respective role as Mafia Don, mafia mole and undercover cop. There is an overriding tension throughout the movie and there are very few scenes that fail to please.

I particularly enjoyed Mark Wahlberg's (almost sinister) portrayal of the cop who specializes in running undercover agents. His foul-mouthed character manages to endear, despite his aggression.

Alec Baldwin and Martin Sheen are almost sidelined, but they have given 100% to their respective roles.

Overall, thumbs up. Watch it.

Life has been hectic (as usual). Was in Pune on Sat/Sun, enjoyed the outing at a place called Kamshet. Hung around at Nirvana Adventures, I plan to go back soon.

Had a whistle-stop tour of Bangalore on Wednesday. It's always nice to know a city really well, apart from the one you have been brought up in.

That apart, have been feeling slightly creative again. Managed to pen some poems, will probably post them some time.

My apologies for the long delay in posting. M, you are right. No excuses :) I am not in China!
